Objective:

The Project Document signed between the Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs and the UNDP has the intention of establishing a framework for cooperation in the area of e-governance, thus increase service delivery in all sectors within both the provincial and municipal spheres of the government and to encourage citizen participation through an efficient ICT structure at municipality level.
The overall objective of the project is to achieve the national goal of a “better life for all”, in line with the Province’s own vision of an Eastern Cape as a compelling place in which to live, work and invest, with integrated and balanced development.
The specific objectives of the project is to assist three local municipalities in the Eastern Cape; Mnquma, King Sabta Dalindyebo (KSD), and Mbizana, under the umbrella of the Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, to foster efficient democratic good governance through the use of ICT systems with the aim of enabling broader access to information and knowledge; to improve service delivery to communities; encouraging citizen participation in the decision making process and to make local government more accountable, transparent and effective.

Key Output:

E-governance strategy developed which encompasses both services and delivery mechanism and modalities.
KSD & Mbizana websites developed capable of providing information and getting feedback from communities.
ICT mechanism in place to promote community based planning and feedback to make local government accountable to the community for service delivery.
Capacity built at the community level for use & production of knowledge disseminated by e-governance system
