For the first time in history, the FIFA World Cup will be hosted on the African continent, significantly, the continent least likely to achieve the Millennium Development Goals despite considerable efforts and some progress. The World Cup 2010 South Africa therefore presents an opportune occasion for all stakeholders to consider engaging more robustly on the critical development issues facing the Continent today.
In its objective to Deliver as One for the 2010 World Cup, the UN is supporting the development goals of South Africa and Africa as part of the 2010 legacy.
In this context the UN agencies based in South Africa, under the leadership of the Resident Coordinator have created six Cluster Groups, namely: Trafficking and Protection, Training and Capacity Support, Environment and Energy, Millennium Development Goals, Communications and Security.
