Gender violence hinders equality - Mkhize

Copenhagen outcomes disappoint Sonjica

Pretoria - Environmental Affairs Minister Buyelwa Sonjica has expressed disappointment at the outcomes of the climate talks in Copenhagen, Denmark.

"Negotiations closed on Saturday without reaching an internationally legally binding agreement, which is disappointing for South Africa who had pushed for a two-track agreement," said Sonjica on Tuesday.

 

Nzimande wants college enrolments to double in next 5 years

Pretoria.- Universities were not the only post-school education option available to the South African youth, Higher Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande said on Wednesday, noting that further education and training (FET) colleges could play a critical role in preparing young people for economic participation.
 

UN agency hails mining giant for committing to generate jobs

Anglo American, one of the world"s largest mining companies, today unveiled a new project to create more jobs, support entrepreneurship and boost local economies in South Africa, a move welcomed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The multinational corporation is answering the Business Call to Action (BCtA), a global initiative challenging companies to apply their business expertise, technology and innovative spirit to tackling poverty and contributing to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), eight anti-poverty targets with a 2015 deadline.

Limpopo Province, South Africa: "We worked hard," said Halima Chande, one of the organizers. "But with work, songs, drama, local dances and a good lunch with drinks, it was not viewed as a social function by the young generation. I was so moved that after establishing almost one acre of orchard, these young people did not feel tired. One of them came to me and gave me her hand and said 'thank you for the party', promising to always be a volunteer and to keep the environment clean."
