Enhanced Service Delivery Through Good Governance and Capacity Development

2009 Achievements

  1. Service Delivery in Health: In collaboration with the Department of Health in Limpopo province(RSA) and the UNV, access by the poor to health services delivery in the rural areas has been improved through the provision of professionals to health facilities with a twinning arrangements with national professionals. This initiative also resulted in improved institutional capacity, strengthened accountability, strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation.
  2. E-Governance: Needs assessment was conducted which resulted in the development of an action plan to promote the integration and utilisation of e-governanace within provincial and local government planning processes in the Eastern Cape. The process is also envisaged to improve on community participation in decision making.
  3. M&E/Accountability: As an effort towards institutionalisation of M&E within provincial and local governments, performance monitoring  and reporting systems were put in place within selected municipalities to strengthen accountability and improve on service delivery.
  4. Strategic Planning/Improved Governance: UNDP supported the lead department responsible for improvement of service delivery in conducting a major national capacity assessment and consultation which culminated into a national turn-around strategy. The implementation of the strategy will commence in 2010.
