23 November 2010. - Nurses across the country could find their work a little easier if a new mobile health information system (MHIS) being tried by the Health Department in various Nelson Mandela Bay hospitals is rolled out nationally.
The project provides nurses with point-of-care access to searchable health information, usually only found in textbooks, through wireless 3G-enabled smartphones.
Nurses have described the technology as a “powerful device” for obtaining the medical information they need.
The project, run by the Health Department in conjunction with Qualcomm and MTN, has been tested by 50 public sector nurses from Dora Nginza, Livingstone and Provincial hospitals.
